RE: Glendale Titanium 5th wheel

Hi,
The two people that I talked to really like their units.
They are well balanced and have twin fresh water tanks, one in front of and one behind the trailer axles, so you don't add 300 pounds to the hitch weight when dry camping.
The only drawback is they produce a 96" wide trailer, not the usual 102" wide trailer. I saw them several years ago at a RV show, and the rear porch looks like a great option.
Fred.
Regarding the 96" width versus 102", it seems to me that 96" is almost the industry standard (although I know that some make the wider version). Who are you comparing the Titanium to? Are they in the same ballpark for MSRP? Not sure I've seen too many 102" wide trailers - who all has them?

RE: 2008 Cameo sofa side tables

Not sure I understand your question. Are you saying that you want to add the side tables to the 2-seat side theatre seating? If so, you might want to check the available room for them first before buying. I think your layout is fairly similar to our 35FD3 and in ours there would not be room to add the side tables without getting rid of something in the dining table area.
Regardless of price, are you sure you want the extra side tables?
As far as price goes, these are custom sized tables with a very low volume of production. The price you quote is high but doesn't really surprise me. Have you checked the price with other dealers?

RE: Cell Services while in USA

In our case, we spend the winter in Florida. Bell Mobility has a 'Florida' plan - 100 minutes for $20/month. In addition to that, we use Skype on our computer. Our Skype package costs us $3 per month (on a 12 month plan) and allows for unlimited free outgoing calling anywhere in Canada or US. Calls to Europe are at extra cost but very inexpensive and free if you happen to be calling Skype to Skype.
Since we only have outgoing call capability on Skype, we have our callers call on our cell phone and then we call back on Skype if the call is going to take very long.
We'll be able to use Skype from back in Canada this spring/summer also. Our Bell Mobility plan is so inexpensive for calls in Canada, we may not use Skype much there (unless we're calling outside of Canada). Skype is great to have for inexpensive long calls.......

Cedar Creek 5er On It's Side After Tornado on Today's News

Anybody see the TV news reports of tornados yesterday in Alabama and Florida panhandle showing the Cedar Creek 5er laying on it's side in a field? Looked like the glass was all broken out but I was surprised to see how it had maintained it's structural integrity after what must have been a very rough ride. Hope no one was in it at the time (or if there was someone, that they survived OK).
Do 5th wheel trailers typically survive rough weather better than mobile homes or travel trailers? Motorhomes?

My wife and I have seen a number of models with a Dirt Devil vacuums. Do any of you have one? How would you rate them?
Thanks

Our Dirt Devil central vac works great. Just as well as any home unit we've ever owned. I would buy one again anytime.....

RE: Nasty North-Central Florida Weather 02/12/08

Two low fronts, {{that means high pressure on mercury barometers pushing it down, hence low front (as reading is low as mercury contracts from pressure)}will meet in the north-central Florida area on Tuesday night (02/12/08). It could get nasty again like ground hogs day 2007. Be ready fill water tanks for weight, close awnings by Tuesday mid day, find where storm shelters are get flash lights, water ready. Stay tuned for weather updates.
Hopefully Trop-a-Cal is a real-life weatherman. Everyone knows those guys are always wrong.
Well, I guess Trop-a-Cal was right. As i sit here in Fort Myers we are under a Tornado watch until 11:00 p.m. this evening. Hope we don't get any.

RE: Washer and Dryer

RV washer/dryer units are a waste of money. They are so small it would take you forever to do a couple days worth of laundry. Damn near every CG now a days have great laundry facilities and those who don't are few and far between. And yes we had to use a laundromat last year in Va. and it was no big deal.
Not to mention the problems with them. Even the top of the line DP rigs ($350k and up) have problems not worth having them installed. I'd rather use the space for storage.
How wrong you are Agrnbrt. Not a waste of money at all. The Sears stacked units we have are almost as big as our full size home units and do a good size load of laundry. You can spend (waste?) your time down at the local laundramat if you want but I have better things to do 2 or 3 times a week. They are just as reliable as home units also.

RE: RV show- same old, same old

We saw some great RV's at this year's Tampa show. The ones that stand out most were the Newmar Class A's (especially the Mountainaire models). We also saw that Class A with the Murphy Bed/Theatre Room (Tour Master - I think). It was a great idea. I didn't really like the front living room layout but that Theatre Room blew me away. Congrats to that designer!
Really liked the bath and a half models but not sure I'd pay for the occasional convenience unless I win the lottery.
Guess I'll stick with what I've got for awhile......

Fire Ants - Treatment of Bites & How to Get Rid of Them?

I was out washing my 5th wheel this morning. All was going well until I came to the side that is overhanging a grassed area next to our cement pad. I was busy looking up at my work and didn't notice I was standing on a small ant hill. All of a sudden, I started experiencing what felt like dozens of little pin pricks followed by a burning sensation. I looked down and my ankles were covered in little red ants (which I quickly hosed off). The burning sensation remained for about 1/2 an hour or so but seems OK now.
I have two questions:
1) Is there any good treatment available to treat the bites? I think they often develop into small pus pockets under your skin. Any way to prevent that? Is it best to break open the pus pockets once they develop or leave them as is to avoid infection?
2) What is the best product to use to destroy the ant hills? Once I started looking around, I found dozens of ant hills spread around our yard in this RV park. We're here for 2 1/2 more months so I need to get rid of them in order to work on that side of my rig.
When I did a search on Fire Ants I got way too many hits to search through them all so I'm hoping somebody out there has the answers. Thanks in advance!

Rear Impact Guard Req'd on Trailers Imported To Canada

Spoke with an RV salesman in Florida last month and he mentioned that he would no longer be able to sell Trailers to Canadians if they intended to take them back to Canada due to some new rear bumper legislation. I thought he was crazy until I came across this on the RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) site:
Anybody know what constitutes a Rear Impact Guard and why they are required all of a sudden?
SECTION 11 - ALL TRAILERS WITH A GVWR OF 4 536 KG. OR MORE, MANUFACTURED AFTER SEPTEMBER
1ST, 2007, MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH A REAR IMPACT GUARD (RIG) THAT CONFORMS TO SECTION (3) OF
CMVSS 223 - REAR IMPACT GUARD.
The only exceptions are:
(a) a pole trailer, a pulpwood trailer, a wheels back trailer or a trailer designed to be used as temporary living quarters;
(b) a low-chassis trailer; and
(c) a trailer designed to interact with, or having, work-performing equipment located in or moving through the area that would be
occupied by a horizontal member that meets the configuration requirements specified in the standard.
Most trailers with a GVWR of 4,536 kg. or more sold at the retail level in the U.S. and manufactured after September 1, 2007 may not
be equipped with a rear impact guard that conforms to Canadian requirements.

RE: Just how big a deal is it to set up a 5W?

The big difference for me (after about 35 yrs of RV'ing in Pop Ups, Travel Trailers, Motorhomes and 5th Wheels) is the time your RV is spent being parked. The worst thing to do with a motor vehicle is to leave it parked for long periods of time. It's not good for the drivetrain, brakes, etc.
Since most of my travels involve a move from one site to another and then parking there for 3 - 6 months at a time, I believe that it makes more sense for me to use a 5th Wheel(or a TT) than a Motorhome. Then, the Tow Vehicle is under fairly constant usage that keeps it in good working order. The set up time for both are fairly equal if you factor in a Towed Vehicle with a Motorhome.
The fact that a typical Motorhome is several thousands of $$$$$ more than a fairly comparable 5th Wheel/TV is just gravy. That's a LOT of money you can spend on something you would really need or would like. Like gas or diesel fuel for instance......

Garmin C530 Online Update - How Do I Know It Worked

I just bought a new C530 a few months ago. When I go into Garmin's site, it indicates that his model is no longer supported (or something to that effect). It seems to let me do an update though using a USB cable to my computer. Nothing seemed to happen when I did the upgrade though. I'm still not seeing new roads/stores/etc. so I'm wondering if the upgrade is not available for this model. Anyone know?

Recommendation for RV Shower/Sink Cleaners?

I'm looking for a cleaner to use on the plastic sinks (kitchen & bath) and the plastic shower stall. We always use a squeegy and chamois in the shower but still end up with soap scum and a built up film on the walls, floor, door, etc.
Has anyone found some great cleaning products that are safe to use on these plastic sinks and showers?

RE: New York loves Fivers

On my southbound Florida trips from Southwestern Ontario, I've always used I-75 with NO tolls at all (except for the bridge crossings at Detroit or Port Huron). Maybe I've been spoiled....
On our trip back north this coming spring, we were planning to take I-95 up along the east coast and take in many of the touristy places on the way. Then head west from somewhere around Boston and cross back into Canada somewhere along the St. Lawrence Seaway/Great Lakes. Am I likely to run into toll roads on this trip. If so, where? How much would a trip from Jacksonville to Boston then to Buffalo likely cost? And are there any good alternative roads?
Is it just me or does it seem like the highwaymen of old no longer have to chase us down to steal from us - now they just wait for us at the toll booths for their pound of flesh?

RE: Need Help With Vista Problem

A number of the larger email providers have been attempting to combat the spam problem with various verification techniques and the like. (We're talking about fighting a flood of spam emails numbering in the millions per second.) Just verify your account.
Bottom line: This has nothing whatsoever to do with Vista.
:)
Lynn
Thanks Lynn. That is what I was trying to do but Vista didn't seem to let me do the verification. While I've been playing with it (or should that read; wasting my time with it) for most of the day, now I think that the reason it wouldn't let me do the verification is because I had the "Popups okay" switch turned off. Is the verification process considered to be a Popup?. I'm so new to Vista that I didn't even know I had a "Popups okay" switch LOL!!! Live and learn.....

RE: Need Help With Vista Problem

That's not a Vista problem - that's Hotmail. Usually those messages require you to read and type some distorted letters to confirm that you're not a computer. To correct the problem you'll have to go to Hotmail.
To get back on topic here:
I just happened to go back into my old Windows XP computer to send mail that I couldn't send on the Vista one. There I got the same message BUT the XP computer did give me the distorted letters to use to confirm my Hotmail account - my Vista computer didn't give me this opportunity so I still say this is a VISTA problem.
At any rate, I've resolved the problem this time but what happens if it reoccurs after I've trashed my old computer????? There seems to be some kind of conlict between Hotmail & Vista here. Any other suggestions for a Vista solution if it reoccurs?
